Cruise: Patmos

We arrived at the tiny island of Patmos as the sun rose.  Gorgeous and peaceful.
We were the only boat in this tiny port.

This is the view from the ship looking up towards the monastery.

Our first stop was the Cave of the Apocalypse, where St. John wrote the final book of the Bible.

Our tour guide telling us what to expect in the cave.

Don't I have a beautiful family??? Aw, hush.

The view from beside the small buildings by the cave.
That is indeed the port (tiny) and our cruise ship (which was not huge - look for the big blue smokestack on the superstructure) in the background behind Jack'o.

Mosaic at the entry to the building by the cave.

This is the working monastery at the top of the island.

I couldn't take photos inside, but the chapel--which was tiny--was covered in incredible frescos from the 1700's, 1800's, and early 1900's.

There were several older than that.  They were uncovering one from the 12th century, I think.

Views from the monastery.

Did I mention that they have boughatsa on Patmos?
I won't mention that we spent something like 35 Euro (almost $50 USD?) on something like 6 pastries...
