We should have taken the tour to Pergamum at Izmir, but we didn't. Izmir--at least what we could see from around the port area--is a modern city. This was sort of a lost day of wandering with little satisfaction. We did find a good souvenir shop and a great Turkish pottery shop where I bought a nice, big bowl. Did I mention that we only brought one big suitcase along with five small backpacks?
Clearly, we were not yet veteran cruise participants at this point. Can I just say, that I'd like a cruise line that didn't nickel and dime you to death? Anyway, we had made the choice not to participate, thinking of the several other excursions we had signed up for - but in the end didn't "make" and we were left with much rime to wander aimlessly. Which had its own advantages. But the Lecturer is correct, we should have gone to Pergamum.
On the way to/from the boat was a nice park. The water here was choppy and sort of unaccessible. I'm sure Izmir is an interesting city, but our day here was rather lost.
