Last Thursday night Nancy and I went with some friends to Souq Waqif down by the corniche for some dinner, shisha, and shopping. We haven't gotten out without the kiddos much lately, and we wanted to spend some relaxed time with Ravi, Corinne, and Prakash before they got too busy getting ready to move to San Antonio.
We had been planning Thursday night for a week or so, and in complete ignorance of the fact that it was the exact evening set for the World Cup bid announcements - for which Qatar has made a significant effort to be awarded the 2022 Cup.
Luckily we got there early enough to find parking (barely), and we got ourselves settled into a nice table along the main street of the souq - with a TV just visible across the way and a good view of the people in the street. The weather was gorgeous and the mood was light and happy. It was a good night. Here's a RVH just to give a taste:
Now that's celebrating! We'd heard the good news for Qatar and won't those new facilities be put to perfect use. All Obama could say was that a mistake was made. Sometimes we're less than graceful around here. PS
