Athens: Acropolis

Preparing to lay siege to the Acropolis.  Front gate in our sights.  John informed us that an "Acropolis" is a Greek term for "the keep" of a major city...none of us understood what that meant until he brought it down to our level and said, "That's like Helms Deep in Lord of the Rings."  And lo, the geeks understood.

On the walk up the rock.  Two boys hanging on to each other, out of love or perhaps out of fear of falling off backwards.
Florence Nightingale cusses out other tourists at the Parthenon and demands shade and water from her minons.

Re-planted olive tree on the spot that myth says Athena's sacred olive tree originally sprouted.  This is how she became namesake of the city.  The Romans cut the sacred tree down, but it grew back. John, again drawing on his valuable cultural knowledge, pointed out that this is like the white tree of Minas Tirith.

The temple of Nike above the Acropolis gate.

Lots of puzzle pieces waiting to be re-puzzled...

The Parthenon. It's big.

Just some old rocks laying around...with a bunch of ancient Greek carved in them.

John would like me to say these are the "Hotties of the Erechtheion," but I don't know if I can do that after just completing my Feminist Theory class...

A hole in a wall.  You can see modern Athens through it.

The people.
